Voters often latch onto a political party for a single issue, and political parties often exclude anyone else's interests by going hell-bent on some issue.

  Special status is based on anything but need; and need, is universal, across all groups, races, religions, ages; we ought to make sure "everyone" is included. When we are truly equal, colour blind and compassionate, there will not be a need for special status or points.
